The Instagram app uses an aggressive whitespace-trimming script when formatting caption submissions. Whenever it detects an empty line containing only standard ASCII newline characters (\n), Instagram strips it out automatically to conserve vertical screen space. By inserting an invisible Unicode character like Braille Blank (U+2800), Instagram recognizes the line as having legitimate content, preserving clean, breathable paragraphs.
What is the Braille Blank character (U+2800) and why is it superior to dots or dashes?+
Old Instagram caption workarounds forced creators to separate paragraphs with awkward periods (.), emojis, or dashes (-). The Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800) is an official Unicode symbol that is 100% invisible and transparent. It creates genuine, distraction-free empty lines without tacky punctuation marks.
Will my line breaks collapse if I edit the caption after posting on Instagram?+
If you edit a caption directly inside the Instagram mobile app, Instagram often re-runs its whitespace-stripping filter and may delete line breaks again. If you need to edit your post, re-copy your clean draft from this tool and paste the entire updated text into the edit box.
